Farm License Granted

The exciting news this week is that a local woman has been granted a 10-year license for use of Pete's Farm located just a few kilometers from Tahsis. She plans to grow vegetables and eventually provide a Community Supported Agriculture service to people in Tahsis. This program is a plan whereby people subscribe and receive weekly boxes of locally grown vegetables. Best of luck to her.

Composting Workshop

Tahsis Community Garden Society invites the community to a
BOKASHI COMPOSTING WORKSHOP
Lead by Terry Fassbender,
Organic Master Gardener
Bokashi composting is a safe, quick, and convenient way to compost in your kitchen, garage, or apartment, using a specific group of microorganisms to anaerobically ferment all food waste (including meat and dairy). Since the process takes place in a closed system insects and smell are controlled.  The process is very fast, with compost usually ready to be integrated into your soil or garden in two weeks.

If you want to build your own composter bring two 5 gallon buckets and
one tight-fitting lid.

Community Garden Part Two

The Tahsis Community Garden is thriving and running at capacity for members. There are others interested in participating and there is an effort to increase local food production so the idea of a second site for community garden has been suggested. Wondering how many people are interested in being new members?

The Annual General Meeting of the Tahsis Community Garden is going to be held on Friday, March 20 at 7:00 pm at the Captain Meares Elementary and Secondary School, 299 Alpine View. Not sure which room but there will be someone by the parking lot door to let you know. Come if you are interested in getting involved.

Regarding the idea of an outdoor market in Tahsis, this year it's not going to work. The "anchor store' we need is not available. Maybe when some local food starts to get produced, an outdoor market will be possible.

Tahsis Outdoor Market?

On Wednesday, January 7 a small group met to have the initial discussion on the possibility of having an outdoor market in Tahsis this summer. Ideas were tossed around. We are waiting for a person who would be vital to the success to decide if he can be in. Start thinking about what you would like to bring to the market, who you would like to recruit to be in the market and what you personally would like to have there. It's wide open so the more ideas the better.

Blackberry time

People are beginning to pick blackberries and they are beautiful. As big as grapes, juicy and sweet.
